Emere (Emily 1)

Emily was born in 1883 at Ngawhitu. She is the first child of Remana and Alice. She attended Ohaewai Māori Native School and Hukarere Māori Girls Secondary Schools in Napier.

Emily married Nepia Titaha and together they had one child. Sadly, Emily died in 1907, shortly after Nellie was born, leaving Alice and Remana to raise her.

Nellie married Jim Phillips and together they had two girls Thelma and Bobietta.

CHILDREN OF NELLIE & JIM PHILLIPS

  1. Thelma (Nora) married Eric Hogg and together they had three children (Melody, Charmaine and Lawrence).
  2. Bobietta (Bobby) also married and did not have children.

Waiata
A couple of waiata written for and by Kiwikiwi whanau includes a 2009 waiata by Huia Armstrong and Troy Kingi, aptly named, Te Whanau Kiwikiwi. A second waiata of relevance is by Piripi Cope, of our Cope line, called Ngā Puawai Ō Ngāpuhi.
